Mana Bernardes & Pi Kombucha Tropical
Mana Bernardes moves fluidly between design, visual art, and craft—a true multi-disciplinarian whose work with recycled materials and natural forms creates its own category. Mana has made significant collaborations throughout her career, including Nike, Tok&Stok, City Council of Rio de Janeiro and many other activities aimed at inclusion, respect and empowerment of women, minorities and underprivileged people.
Her calligraphy, more than anything, is capable of transporting us to different spaces, they carry not only hand gestures, but humanity and a state of flow. Mana writes in the same rhythm she teaches us to occupy the air around us everyday with art.
To exemplify Mana's travel through art and design, we have two images of Pi Tropical, a Kombucha company where mana works as Art Director and provided a series of drawings and handwritten variations. Me and Rey Silva transformed this visual path into something capable of being applied to an entire brand system, enhanced by a pattern that built on elegance and fresh tropicalist vibrancy.
Another memorable works was Nike OiR Merkabah's Circuit, where Mana transformed a busy public space in Rio, installing a massive bamboo structure design to serve as dancing scenario, playground, resting spot and much more. As per usual with Mana's endeavours, it was extremely meaningful to follow the ideation of a project so broad—where art, ecology, and community converged—and the idea of reimagining our public spaces still lives in me.
Marcelo Jeneci, Mana's partner at the time, composes timeless and contemporary music, weaving Brazilian northeast folk traditions with sophisticated arrangements. You can find him all glittered-up at the orange-toned artwork surrounded by Mana's unique calligraphy.
Working with this creative couple meant learning how to translate their shared life's philosophy into a clean visual language, bridging sensibility and entrepreneurship.
